Could you survive? Ha!!!

I just read this article after reading about it on Money Saving Mom's blog. And I was flabbergasted! (Note: Kaylyn defined this word for us today as "so surprised you can't talk" - is she really only 5?).

Could you survive on $100 for food per week for a family of 4? Per the article, a family of four on food stamps has an allowance of $117 for each week! Okay, how do I get signed up for food stamps? Even just enough to raise my budget this high! That would actually double my food budget. Our food budget is $125 for 2 weeks. Like the mom put to the challenge in the article, this does not include household items (non-food items, including diapers) which I currently have a budget of $60 for two weeks. And these budget amounts were adjusted this spring with Adam's promotion. I have never felt like my family was starving. Dinner may not be what you're craving, but it's generally something everyone (or almost everyone - please feel sorry for Kaylyn, our picky eater) likes.

So I'm just curious - what is your food budget for one week, two weeks or however you do your budget? Would you feel "rich" if your budget was increased to the appropriate food stamp allowance for your family?

MS150 Time

It's that time again. Our annual fundraising for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Adam will be riding in the MS150 bike ride again this year on September 13th. He has set his goal at $300 but I hope he can raise more for this grand cause. I am constantly amazed at how many people we personally know who are fighting MS.

Please consider contributing to fight against MS through Adam's bike ride by clicking here or on the image above and you can keep up with how he's doing. And if you decide to do this later, I'm adding a link on the side of our blog that you can click through.

Princess Morgan

June birthdays/Father's Day celebration

We celebrated June birthdays and father's day with my family on the 21st. Granny and Poppa set up a pool in the yard and the kids all had a blast running and jumping into it.

Matt tried to get Robin in on the fun. But she wasn't interested.

Although a bit hesitant, Kaylyn also ran across the yard and "jumped" into the pool. Morgan would have nothing to do with the pool so she headed off with Uncle Matt to get her diaper back on.

The Zoo in the Rain

So on Thursday, the 19th, Kaylyn said let's go to the zoo and she proceeded to pack a picnic lunch. So I gathered up my stuff and loaded up the car. It was raining at our house. I called Adam - "What's the radar look like? It's raining here." His response It's only raining at our house then. So we headed off to the zoo. Then stood underneath a tree for the first 20 minutes. Well Morgan and I did - here's what Kaylyn did.

Once it cleared up to misting, we started around the zoo.
By the time we got up to the elephants and tigers, it was beautiful. Here's Morgan and Kaylyn walking from the tigers to the wolves.
Kaylyn - It's a Cheetah Mom! (Notice that she's in the middle of "Chee" when I got the picture.
Morgan - my picture too please.
As we left the cheetah, I noticed storm clouds building back up and decided it was time for us to make our way to the car. We got one last picture as we left the zoo.

I'm thankful we left when we did. As soon as got home, a tornado warning was issued - this was for the tornado that Mom was in.
